New Delhi, Apr 20:With India on track to become the world’s most populous country, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal urged people to consider GDP, unemployment, and annual inflation, pointing out that India lags behind its neighbour China on these measures. Sibal, a former human resource development minister who frequently criticises the government, shared data on Twitter comparing India and China in order to highlight the gap between the two countries on key parameters such as GDP and inflation. According to the most recent UN data, India is on track to become the world’s most populous country, with 142.86 crore people. Sibal, an Independent MP, said in a tweet, “India ahead of China: India has 1428 million people, while China has 1425 million. Other indicators (2021), according to World Bank data: China has a GDP of USD 17.73 trillion, while India has a GDP of $3.18 trillion. China has 4.8% unemployment, while India has 7.7%. China has 1% annual inflation (consumer prices), while India has 5.1%. Consider it!” The Congress also chastised the government over unemployment on Wednesday, after UN data revealed that the country was on track to become the most populous in the world.

According to Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, the population is growing and India is becoming the world’s youngest country, but where are the jobs for our youth?

“What used to be called a demographic dividend can now be called a demographic disaster because our youth do not have jobs and there is no talk of them getting jobs,” she had said.
