India crosses 54L Covid cases, record 12L tests conducted in 24 hours

Another massive spike of 92,605 new cases in the last 24 hours took India›s coronavirus tally to 54,00,619 cases. However, 94,612 patients also recovered in the same time, taking the total number of recoveries to about 43 lakhs.

Twelve lakh samples were also tested, which is the highest number tested in a day so far. Unfortunately, 1,133 deaths were registered in the past 24 hours too, which took the total number of fatalities to 86,752. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh remain the worst-hit states.

India’s most affected state, Maharashtra, recorded as many as 20,598 new coronavirus-positive cases, taking the state›s overall tally to 12,08,642. With the death of 455 patients, the state’s fatality count also mounted to 32,671. However, a total of 26,408 patients were discharged during the day too. So far, 8,84,341 patients have recovered in the state. But there are still 2,91,238 active cases in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 case count in the national capital went past 2.46 lakhs, with 3,812 more people contracting the disease. 37 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 4,982. However, of the total 2,46,711 cases reported in Delhi so far, 2,09,632 have either recovered, been discharged or migrated from the city.

The neighbouring state of Haryana reported 29 more fatalities, which is the highest single-day toll linked to Covid-19, pushing the state’s count to 1,149, while 2,305 fresh cases raised the infection tally to 1,11,257. The number of active cases in Haryana stands at 21,411 currently, even though a total of 88,697 people have been discharged after recovering from the infection.

The death count crossed the 5,000-mark in Uttar Pradesh with 94 more fatalities while 5,809 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 3,54,275. The new deaths brought the total fatality count to 5,047 in the state, while the number of active Covid-19 cases stood at 65,954.

Jammu & Kashmir recorded 14 more fatalities related to the coronavirus infection in last 24 hours that took the death toll past the 1,000 mark. 1,457 fresh cases in the region pushed the total tally to 63,990.
Tamil Nadu reported 5,516 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking its overall tally to 5,41,993. Meanwhile, 60 more deaths pushed the death toll to 8,811. Active cases in the state still stand at 46,703. However, as people are being discharged from different hospitals across the state, the number of recoveries for the day amounted to 5,206 and cumulatively, to 4,86,479.

In Andhra, the coronavirus tally touched 6.25 lakh cases, as 7,738 more were reported, even as 10,608 more patients got cured. The state also recorded 57 fresh fatalities in last 24 hours, taking the gross count to 5,359.
