With 56,282 new cases in the last 24 hours, India crossed the 2-million mark in the total number of coronavirus cases on Thursday. As the tally continues to grow, the Central government has released Rs 890.32 crore as the second instalment of ‘Covid-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package’ to 22 states. With 904 fatalities in the last 24 hours, more than 40,699 people have succumbed to the deadly disease in the country. However, India’s recovery rate continued to rise and stood at 67.6 percent.

Worst-hit Maharashtra reported 1,514 new cases and 316 deaths in the last 24 hours. 4,79,779 people have been infected with the virus so far and 16,729 people have lost their lives. The state now has 1,46,305 active cases with 3,16,375 recoveries. Meanwhile, Mumbai›s Dharavi slum reported eight new Covid-19 cases and the tally here rose to 2,597 cases.

 Ramping up its efforts to unlock the state and to adapt to the new normal, Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government sent a proposal for the second time to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal recommending to open hotels, gyms and weekly markets, citing fall in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state which Baijal had rejected earlier. The National Capital which has partially opened up its shops witnessed 1,299 fresh cases and 15 deaths and 1,008 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Delhi now has 1,41,531 total cases with 1,27,124 recoveries , 10,348 active cases and 4,059 deaths.

 In the meantime, Tamil Nadu reported 5,684 new cases and110 deaths in the last 24 hours. The state now has 53,486 active cases and has recorded a total of 4,671 deaths due to the virus so far. Tamil Nadu has reported 2,79,144 Covid-19 cases till now. Karnataka reported its biggest single-day spike of 6,805 Covid-19 cases and 93 fatalities in the last twentyfour hours, taking the infection count in the state to 1.58 lakh. The state also saw 5,602 patients getting discharged after recovery. Out of the fresh cases reported, 2,544 were from Bengaluru urban area alone.

 Kerala reported 1,298 new Covid-19 cases, three deaths and 800 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases now stands at 11,983, the total death toll rose to 97 in the state. While 18,337 infected people have recovered so far in Kerala. Uttar Pradesh has reported its highest single-day spike of 4,586 Coronavirus cases in the last twenty-four hours. The state has also reported 61 deaths due to the virus. Uttar Pradesh›s total tally now is over 1.08 lakh.

 Haryana reported three more deaths due to Covid-19, as 755 fresh cases took the tally to 39,303. With this, COVID-19 deaths in Haryana have risen to 458. The number of active cases in the state currently stands at 6,205 while 32,640 have been discharged after recovery. Punjab recorded 1049 new Covid-19 cases and 26 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total number of cases in the state now stands at 20,891, including 6,715 active cases, 13,659 recoveries and 517 deaths.

Andhra Pradesh witnessed 10,328 new Covid-19 cases, 72 deaths and 8516 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Total cases have increased to 1,96,789 including 1,12,870 recoveries and 1,753 deaths. Number of active cases now stands at 82,166. A total of 499 Covid-19 cases, 464 recoveries & 10 deaths were reported in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours. With this, total cases have risen to 23,454, including 15,708 recoveries and 436 deaths.Globally, there have been over 1.87 crore confirmed cases of Covid-19 and more than 7.05 lakh people have died so far.
