India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was acquired by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs 18 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, reflected on his move and expressed confidence in his worth. The auction saw intense bidding between Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants before Chahal was finally secured by PBKS.
Chahal holds the record for the most wickets by an Indian in T20Is and is also the leading wicket-taker in IPL history. With 354 wickets in 305 T20s, including 96 wickets in 80 T20Is, Chahal’s impressive figures include a best of 6/25. “I was quite nervous and anxious because this amount is what I got in the last three seasons combined. I think I deserve this price, and I am very excited,” Chahal said about his big move.
The spinner also shared his excitement about joining PBKS, where he has a strong bond with Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh. He added, “I’m excited as my bond with Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh is strong, and I will also get to learn a lot from Ricky Ponting sir. At least I’m closer to home now. It was Jaipur initially, and now it will be Chandigarh.”

Chahal, who remains RCB’s all-time leading wicket-taker, joined Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2022 and helped them reach the playoffs twice. He won the Purple Cap in 2022 with 27 wickets in 17 matches. PBKS finished ninth in the 2024 IPL and has not reached the playoffs since their runner-up finish in 2014.
