Chinese law enforcement on Monday recently arrested a street artist from Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay, ahead of mere hours before the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Street Artist Sanmu Chen got arrested near Victoria Park, where commemoration of 1989 Tiananmen Square incident takes place.

But with new security law in place since 2020, the events and crowd has simply disappeared.

As per Voice of America, chen was arrested for second time. Earlier, the artist was detained for allegedly chanting these slogans ‘Hong Kongers, do not be afraid. Don’t forget tomorrow is June 4’.

However, this time, he was detained for miming the action of drinking, in front of the police van.

In addition, he was also drawing or writing in the air. But according to the report, Chinese authorities are cracking down on people, who allegedly make ‘seditious’ post in social media.

One of the arrested individual was pro-democracy activist and Victoria park organizer Chow Hang-tung. Who had served 30-month sentence since 2021.

According to VOA, the tinnamen square occurred crackdown on June 4,1989, when pro-establishment fired on pro-democratic student protestors. Resulting in the death of hundreds, possibly thousands of people.

And till now, an annual event observing solidarity for 1989 incident no longer takes place, as organizers of the event have been disbanded, followed by leaders’s arrest.

Further, critics have revealed, freedom in the city has worsened, ever since British have returned Hong Kong to China.

But according to Chinese establishment and Hong Kong’s, it alleges, that the stability has been restored, since this new law introduction.
