The first trailer for Wicked: For Good reveals the aftermath of Elphaba and Glinda’s split, teasing new music, returning stars, and a dramatic showdown in Oz as the franchise prepares to conclude its magical saga.
The first ever complete trailer for Wicked: For Good, the much awaited sequel to the Wicked film adaptation, has finally been published and provides an early peek at how the narrative will conclude. Cynthia Erivo comes back as Elphaba, the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West, while Ariana Grande returns as Glinda, the ambitious Good Witch of the North.
The story was divided into two parts for its film adaptation, which was based on the popular Broadway and West End musical that was first adapted from Gregory Maguire’s book. The second installment is scheduled to be released on November 21.Both films were shot back-to-back
At Elstree Studios from December 2022 to January 2024, though production was briefly halted due to the Hollywood actors’ strike. The first film became the UK’s highest-grossing movie of 2024 and snagged ten Oscar nominations, winning for best costume and production design. It lasted almost as long as the full stage play, clocking in at 2 hours and 40 minutes. Erivo and Grande’s close friendship off-screen also contributed to the film’s popularity.
However, the sequel faces a musical problem, with most of the iconic musicals such as “Defying Gravity” and “Popular” already featured in the first film. To compensate, director Jon M. Chu revealed that Wicked: For Good will introduce two new songs vital to the film’s plot.
The new trailer depicts Glinda addressing a furious crowd as they hunt for Elphaba, now deemed a public enemy. In a climactic shot, Elphaba defiantly declares she’s “off to see the wizard” before soaring into the sky. Chu teased emotional stakes and rising tension in this final chapter, promising fans a powerful payoff to Elphaba and Glinda’s diverging paths.
