As Emily in Paris gets ready to start shooting Season 5 this May, fans can anticipate a major change. One of the main characters will not be coming back, potentially disrupting a central plot. After the dramatic occurrences of Season 4, in which Emily struggled with her relationship with Gabriel and Camille’s affair with Sofia, the character’s absence may leave unresolved tensions, especially in the messy love triangle that has been the center of the series.
Who Will Not Be Back for Season 5?
It was established that Camille Razat will not be featured in Season 5 of Emily in Paris. Although this announcement is unexpected, the creator Darren Star already hinted at her departure. Star told The Wrap, “I think she’s always going to be part of the series — she’s part of their world and I would never rule out the fact that we’re going to see her again. Her story is going to continue.”
He continued, “Characters can enter and exit a series, but you don’t always have to see them. We may or may not. I don’t know how much of Camille we’ll be seeing next season. But again, she’s in the universe of the series. I don’t know how soon we’ll be seeing her, but it doesn’t mean, again, that we won’t be seeing her,” The New York Post reports.
What Does Season 5 Hold?
With the cast revamp, life for Emily is also going to undergo a vast change. Last season, having moved into an Italian apartment in order to initiate a new office of Agence Grateau in Rome, Emily will wholeheartedly indulge her new life in Italy. Nonetheless, Paris won’t be too far behind for her, because she’s still entwined in the city’s magic and mayhem.
Star told Tudum, “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she won’t be in Paris, but she’ll have a presence there in Rome.” Star made the choice to bring Emily’s storyline from Paris to Italy because he wanted to keep the show new, adding, “The thought of Emily’s transition from Paris to Italy to create a new office there came from my need to get ahead of the audience and bring them somewhere they didn’t expect to go, and show the show can have a larger footprint.”
