Selena Gomez’s Billionaire Status Questioned as Startup Falters

Selena Gomez, a well-known singer and actress, is facing strong criticism after a report said her mental health startup is struggling to pay its staff. According to Forbes, Wondermind, the company Gomez co-founded, is going through a serious financial crisis.

Over the weekend, Forbes revealed that the startup is barely staying afloat. The report stated that Selena’s mother and Wondermind CEO, Mandy Teefey, is currently supporting the company financially. Teefey allegedly told employees last Thursday that she took a loan against her home to cover the company’s debts. However, a source later told People that this claim isn’t true.

Employees Still Missing Paychecks

Forbes also reported that Wondermind employees were paid for one missed paycheck, but another is still overdue. The company spokesperson addressed the issue, saying, “Like many startups, Wondermind has been working through its own set of growing pains.”

They added, “In the coming days we will be transitioning into a new chapter for Wondermind, and continuing our important work in mental fitness that helps hundreds of thousands of people.”

Public Backlash Against Selena Gomez

Despite the company’s challenges, critics are questioning Selena Gomez’s role in the crisis. She is one of the richest entertainers in the world. Last year, Bloomberg estimated her net worth at $1.3 billion. Other sources place her wealth between $700 million and $1 billion.

Because of her immense fortune, many social media users reacted angrily. On Reddit, one user wrote, “Billionaires billionaring again.” Another said, “It’s ridiculous Selena started this company and can’t even be assed to meet or pay her employees or to do even basic promo for her own company. She is one of the richest people in America, this is unacceptable.”

Fans Question Her Commitment

Several people also criticized Gomez’s lack of involvement in the business. One Reddit user commented, “If she’s that invested in the charity she should just fund it. If she’s not then give the employees plenty of notice and wind it up. Not paying them is unacceptable.”

Wondermind Promises Change

Even though the startup has faced major setbacks, the company insists it is working to move forward. According to their official statement, they plan to enter a “new chapter” and continue their efforts in mental fitness support.
