Actress Olivia Munn has sparked a fresh debate by questioning the purpose of an upcoming all-female spaceflight. The mission, organized by Blue Origin, includes public figures like Lauren Sanchez, Katy Perry, and Gayle King. Munn raised concerns about the cost and impact of the trip.
Munn Questions the Mission’s Value
While co-hosting Today With Jenna & Friends, Munn openly expressed her doubts. “I’m not sure what they’re doing up there,” she said. She added, “There are so many other things that are important in the world right now. It’s a lot of money to go to space, and there are people who can’t even afford basic necessities.”
She didn’t stop there. Munn continued, “What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous. Space exploration was meant to further our knowledge and help mankind. What are they going to do up there that will make a difference?”
Mission Set for April 14
Blue Origin plans to launch the flight on April 14. The trip will last around 11 minutes. The crew features Lauren Sanchez, Katy Perry, Gayle King, former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen, and producer Kerianne Flynn.
Sanchez and Bowe Respond to Criticism
In response, Lauren Sanchez defended the mission’s message. “All of these women are storytellers in their own right,” she said. “They’re going to go up to space and be able to spread what they felt in different ways.”
Aisha Bowe also explained the importance of visibility. “This representation matters. It’s people seeing themselves and being able to show up authentically in their careers in the future,” she said.
Munn’s comments have divided opinion online. While some agree with her concerns about the mission’s cost and purpose, others support the goal of promoting women in space and science. As the launch date approaches, the conversation around the mission is only growing louder.
