The Cannes Film Festival, along with luxury group Kering, has chosen Nicole Kidman as the latest recipient of the Women in Motion Award. This prestigious honour celebrates women who make a strong impact in both the film industry and society.
Award Ceremony Scheduled for May 18
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman will receive the award on May 18 during a grand gala evening at the Cannes Film Festival. She is the 10th woman to be honoured with this recognition.
Kidman has long supported female filmmakers. Back in 2017, she made a public commitment to work with at least one female director every 18 months. Since then, she has gone beyond that goal and has collaborated with nearly 20 women directors.
Her efforts to boost the presence of women behind the camera are exactly what the Women in Motion program stands for. This initiative has spent the last ten years highlighting the role of women in cinema and pushing for greater gender equality.
Praise from Kering’s CEO
Francois-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering, applauded Kidman’s choices and influence. He said, “Through her artistic standards, her committed choices and her concrete action to change representations in cinema, she is a powerful illustration of what Women In Motion has been defending for a decade.”
Kidman Grateful for the Recognition
In response, Kidman expressed her appreciation for the honour. She said it was a “true honour” to be recognised for her contributions.
With this award, Kidman joins a group of celebrated past recipients that includes Michelle Yeoh, Viola Davis, Salma Hayek Pinault, Jane Fonda, Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Donna Langley, and Patty Jenkins.
Apart from this recognition, Kidman continues to stay busy in the entertainment world. She will return in a new season of ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ on Hulu, where she also serves as executive producer.
She is also starring in upcoming titles like ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ with Elle Fanning and ‘Scarpetta’ alongside Jamie Lee Curtis.
