Alia Bhatt’s second outing to the Cannes Film Festival 2025 became one for the books—not only for her style but for her grace under pressure. Wearing a resplendent Gucci look many were calling the brand’s first-ever Indian sari-inspired number, Alia glittered on the red carpet during the closing ceremony of the festival.
But it wasn’t the outfit alone that people were raving about. A recently-viral video shows a secret moment; Alia’s Malabar Gold and Diamonds necklace unfastened and started slipping. When fate had it, Alia immediately placed her hand over the necklace and struck a pose with her hand graciously around her neck, saving a possible fashion mishap in front of the camera.

The necklace, which featured scarce old European-cut diamonds set in weathered gold with an oxidised look, had a retro Victorian charm. Rhea Kapoor created it along with Mine Diamonds and it was given a makeover for Alia’s couture look to perfection.
Social media went into awe of Alia’s poise. Someone posted, “Credits given where it’s due. She did it pretty gracefully,” and another said, “Yeah, she wasn’t nervous at all. I loved this new look of hers.” Another person who did not know about the incident until the video went up posted, “Oh that’s why her hand was there, I thought she was trying a new pose and she absolutely nailed it no doubt in it.”
Alia’s outfit featured a nude-hued, sequinned sari-style drape adorned with Gucci’s iconic GG monogram. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, the ensemble included a plunging blouse, a straight skirt, and a dupatta-like mesh drape forming a jaal of GG logos, heavily embellished with Swarovski crystals.
Alia was in Cannes as a worldwide ambassador for L’Oréal, and though her wardrobe received great appreciation, it was her natural elegance in how she handled a near-disastrous moment that made the greatest impact.
