The red-carpet premiere of Die, My Love at the 78th Cannes Film Festival caught eyes not just for its actors—Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson but also for an interesting presence on the carpet: a man dressed in a huge bird costume.
What Was the Bird About?
Social media buzzed with images of a person costumed as what many initially described as a giant turkey. Clad in feathers resembling a tuxedo and a bold red cowl neck, the figure mingled with celebrities and filmmakers. But it wasn’t until later that the purpose behind the quirky ensemble was revealed.
The outfit was, as it turned out, a condor’s, and it was related to the documentary I Love Peru, in the Cannes Classics section. In Peruvian society, the condor is a mystical creature that bridges heaven and earth. The eye-catching red carpet look was an advertising move in connection to the documentary theme.
I Love Peru’s synopsis is as follows: “Plunging into an trying time, Raphaël Quenard leaves all those who surround him behind and, having been struck by a haunting vision, takes flight to Peru. With his friend Hugo David, he undertakes in this quest spiritual.”

Regarding ‘Die, My Love’
The otherworldly condor sighting took place at the red carpet premiere of Scottish director Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love, based on Ariana Harwicz’s 2017 novel of the same title. The film traces the psychological disintegration of a new mother suffering from postpartum depression. Jennifer Lawrence plays the central role of the mother, with Robert Pattinson playing her husband.
After screening, the film was given a standing ovation of six minutes. Variety reports that the director Ramsay teared up and shortened her speech, commenting, “Wow. I’m so overwhelmed. Thanks to these incredible actors. I’ve got to get it together, I’ll see you in a minute.”
Die, My Love is one of the movies vying for the coveted Palme d’Or award at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
