Intelligence agencies have issued an elevated terror attack alert in the region of Jammu in anticipation of Republic Day, signalling a potential infiltration attempt by a group of three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. The terrorists are believed to be seeking entry through the Samba Sector, with active support from Pakistani rangers.
The intelligence warnings specifically identify the Basantar river in the Samba district of Jammu as the probable route for the infiltration, a traditional path used by infiltrators in the past. The targets of this potential terrorist activity include civilians and security force installations along the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway.
In response to the alert, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Army in the vicinity of the International Border have been placed on high alert. Simultaneously, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have reinforced their border management grid and heightened security along the National Highway to ensure a robust defence against any potential threat.
Last week, authorities took proactive measures by implementing a curfew within a one-kilometer radius of the Samba International Border. This decision was prompted by intelligence inputs from the BSF, emphasizing the importance of prompt actions to safeguard the region. Despite challenging weather conditions, including dense fog and severe cold, the Jammu and Kashmir Police remain vigilant along the border.
Rigorous searches and stringent border control measures are being implemented to address the heightened security concerns and maintain public safety.
