Haryana continues to make claims on its representation in Punjab University Chandigarh. It also came to notice that to some extent Punjab University vice-chancellor professor Rajkumar seems to agree with Haryana’s seeking its representation in the university and the same has been divulged by Chief Minister Manohar Lal.
When asked and in a reaction to the issue Manohar Lal said that a couple of meetings between officials of Haryana and the Punjab University administration as well as vice-chancellor have taken place and in following this, the Vice-chancellor has no objection over Haryana’s demand for the same. Further, he said that the state government is likely to write a letter to the union government of India as it is the supreme authority to take this decision. One of the senior professors and senate members of Punjab University said that the foothold of Haryana in the university would amount to Punjab diluting its claim on Chandigarh as its capital city. Lal had earlier urged the centre to restore Haryana’s share in the university saying as well.
