Providing Z security to Ram Rahim, who was given furlough for a period of 21 days and serving life imprisonment and 20 years in two different cases, led to political churning in the state. The government has provided the Z-plus security cover to the convicted Ram Rahim based on the CID ADGP’s report suggesting a threat to his life from pro-Khalistani activists.

A writ was filed against the furlough given to Ram Rahim and in a reaction to this, the government had come up in defence of its decision in the High Court saying that Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Ram Rahim was not involved in killings directly. Although, he has been convicted for framing conspiracy. What the Haryana government stated in the court is that the deponent Ram Rahim in murder cases was not an assailant and had not executed the actual killings. He has been hatching a criminal conspiracy with his co-accused for these killings. He has been convicted under section 128-B read with section 302 IPC. While reacting to the issue, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Leader Of Opposition (LOP) said that it is the right of any convicted to get furlough or parole and the decision of providing the Z-Plus security to Ram Rahim has been taken by the state government. He further said it depends on the concerned government whether Z-Plus security is given or not in wake of safety issues.

Ram Rahim is serving 20 years imprisonment and life sentence in the Sadhvi rape case and for the murder of a manager working as the manager in the Dera. It came to light that following the permission for furlough, Ram Ram was released at 3.20 PM from Sunaria Jail, Rohtak on January 7, 2021, and after that, he headed towards his Dera located in Gurugram. Amid this, he was accompanied by a fleet of more than half a dozen police vehicles for his protection and to avoid any kind of security breach as such incidents surfaced earlier during his parole in 2021. Before, Chief Minister Manohar Lal also had opined that giving furlough to any convicted is his right.

In the continuation of aforesaid, it is worth stating the security covers include X, Y, Y-Plus, and Z-Plus. the Z-Plus security cover is the highest one and Apart from this, the Special Protection Group (SPG) cover is meant only for the Prime Minister and his immediate family.
