The Haryana government is working towards rejuvenating the Saraswati river that many believe once flowed all the way to the Kutch region of Gujarat to finally merge with the Arabian Sea. Haryana Tourism Minister Kanwar Pal said that the government is making earnest efforts for rejuvenation of the river.

The work is being done to cleanse the polluted water entering the river from nearby villages. Around 25 Liquid Waste Management systems are being installed on the Seechewal Model in Yamunanagar and Kurukshetra districts for this purpose.

This information was shared by the Tourism Minister after presiding over a review meeting of various projects of Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board in Chandigarh on Wednesday. On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment and Climate Change Department, Dheera Khandelwal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board, Vijayendra Kumar and many other officers were present.

Kanwar Pal said that the state government has decided to build a dam on Som river located on the border of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for the restoration of Sarasvati river. He informed that the Himachal Pradesh Government has given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the construction of this dam and the Irrigation Department has forwarded the design of the dam to Central Water Commission for further course of action. He informed that in place of Adi Badri, a barrage (dam) has also been proposed downstream of the Som river which will allow water to flow through the underground pipeline to Sarasvati reservoir at village Rampur Hirya, Rampur Kambian, and Chillaur. He also instructed the officers to expedite the works on projects of Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board.
