Haryana gives nod to start renal transplant in PGI Rohtak this year

The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) Rohtak would be the first government institute in Haryana, which will soon have a facility of kidney transplant

The people in Haryana were waiting for a renal transplant facility in the state for a long time and in this series, their wait seems to be coming to an end as the state government has announced to start the kidney transplant in Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) Rohtak this year. It is pertinent to mention that the patients suffering from kidney failure and waiting for kidney transplant, used to visit the neighbouring state namely Delhi, the National capital and Chandigarh, the state capital and Union Territory (UT), which resulted in huge treatment expenditure and lot of burden for the family members of the concerned patients as well as for them.

It is worth stating that after the starting of this is most likely to benefit the patients suffering from kidney disease and being considered a milestone in the arena of health facilities in the state so far after it gets kicked off.  Divulging the information pertaining to the same, the Chief Minister, Manohar Lal said that the state government is leaving no stone unturned to provide the best facility to the patients and kicking off the new transplant facility.

There are a lot of patients who require multiple organ transplants in Haryana and according to National Organ and  Tissue Transplant Organization in a reaction to an RTI ( NOTTO) , what came to fore is that more than 1500 patients were in a queue for organ transplant from Haryana. Out of these, nearly 1100 patients were waiting for organ transplant to be followed by nearly 300 for liver, 60 for heart and around 10 for liver respectively.

So it has been more than a period of 8 months and the number of patients in a queue for kidney transplant is likely to rise.
