With few days left in the upcoming Winter Assembly Session starting from December 26, the ruling party the BJP along with its ally Jannayak janta Party (JJP) and the main opposite parties, the Congress are busy in preparing for the same and to take on each other during session. Every time, this matter remains in constant discussion that  the proceedings of the session and  sittings should be increased as much as possible so that important issues, bills and other aspects can be discussed in a detailed manner. While reacting to this, Haryana Vidhan Sabha speaker Gianchand Gupta said that continuous efforts have been made to increase the functioning  and sittings of the Vidhansabha session. Besides, he committed to ensure to give sufficient time to the legislators for discussions on significant bills and the serious issue in the sessions. 

According to PRS Legislative Research Institute for Policy Research Studies, in the year 2021, the Assembly Session in 29 states lasted an average of 21 days in a year while the Assembly Session was held for 16 days in Haryana in the last year. This also includes the days of the budget session. On the other hand, if we talk about the states which have held the maximum number of assembly sessions, the list includes the name of Kerala which occupies the top position with 61 days of Assembly Session held last year followed by Odisha  and Karnataka with 43 days and more than 40 days respectively. 

Further, the data revealed that  on an average the Assembly Session has lasted less than 17 days in 20 states while there have been 5 states having assembly sessions less than 10 days only. In continuation to this,  Haryana is also behind the national average and the assembly session lasted for 5 days less in 2021. Regarding this, the Assembly Session has lasted for only 11 days, while in another neighboring state of Himachal Pradesh, the Assembly Session has lasted for 31 days. Apart from this, the assembly  lasted for 26 days in adjoining Rajasthan last year. This data has been taken by the abovementioned organization from the assembly website of different states. It may also be mentioned that the experts of the organization were called to give suggestions in the pre-budget training program organized by the Haryana government for the MLAs on December 5, 2022. 

The statistics of five years from 2016 to 2021 depict that on an average, assembly sessions were held in the state for 14 days a year and in this sense the assembly ran for 70 days in the last 5 years in Haryana.
