Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, asserted that the American embassy in Haiti failed to fulfill its duties after gangs reportedly murdered Natalie (daughter) and Davy Lloyd (son-in-law) of state representative Ben Baker, who were serving as missionaries in the country.

On X, Baker shared his anguish expressing “heart is broken in a thousand pieces”.

In a Facebook post, Missions in Haiti Inc. stated that the duo was assaulted by an armed group in three trucks. According to the organization, the gang took Davy to a house, tied him up, and beat him. They then stole the organization’s trucks and looted them. Another gang arrived, claiming to help, but one was shot and killed, triggering a full attack by the gang.

Hawley expressed his sympathy to the familystating “Erin & I are heartbroken at the loss of Natalie & Davy Lloyd, a wonderful missionary couple from Missouri. He mentioned that they had been married for two years and had committed themselves to spreading the Gospel. He further noted that they tragically lost their lives in Haiti while serving in the mission field, a victim of criminal activity. He also mentioned that their contributions were widely respected in Missouri.

The Missouri Republican said, “Last night, as my office urged the American Embassy to send help to Natalie and Davy as they were under siege, the Embassy told us it was ‘too dangerous‘ to send police.” Hitting out at the Biden administration, he stated, “What a weak country we have become. We cannot protect our own citizens from wanton violence.”

Missouri Governor Mike Parson also denounced the killing as “absolutely heartbreaking news.” Teresa and I express our heartfelt sympathies to Rep. @BenBakerMO, Naomi, and their families. We pray for Natalie and Davy’s loved ones, that God will give them strength during this very difficult time.”

Hawley’s post received mixed response, with some netizens showing their sympathies, and others pointing out why the couple was still residing in Haiti.
