All private and multinational companies in Gurugram have been advised to allow employees to work from home starting November 20 until further notice. The move aligns with efforts to implement the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) aimed at tackling deteriorating air quality in the region.
On Tuesday, Gurugram’s Air Quality Index (AQI) hit 404, placing it in the ‘severe’ category, while pollution levels across Delhi-NCR escalated to hazardous levels.
In response to Stage 4 curbs under GRAP, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) recommended private firms operate at 50% capacity and permit employees to work remotely.
The shift to online operations comes shortly after schools in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and Faridabad announced a transition to virtual classes. Gurugram and Noida have suspended in-person classes until November 23, while Delhi and Faridabad have yet to set an end date.

The Supreme Court had earlier directed states to consider online learning due to alarming pollution levels. On Sunday, Delhi’s air quality crossed into the ‘severe plus’ category, prompting the activation of strict anti-pollution measures under Stage 4 of GRAP.
These emergency steps aim to mitigate the impact of hazardous air quality on daily life in the region.
