Gujarat, renowned for its cultural heritage and commitment to well-being, has secured a coveted place in the Guinness Book of World Records by orchestrating the largest collective Surya Namaskar performance.

On the morning of January 1, 2024, a staggering 4,000 participants spanning 108 locations and 51 diverse categories united to execute the revered sun salutation yoga sequence. This remarkable feat not only underscores the state’s unwavering dedication to well-being but also its commitment to preserving cultural heritage.

The monumental event unfolded against the backdrop of the awe-inspiring Modhera Sun Temple, drawing enthusiastic participation from a myriad of groups, including families, students, yoga enthusiasts, and even seniors. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi graced the celebrations at Modhera, accentuating the significance of the occasion.

The zenith of exuberance was reached when Swapnil Dangarikar, Guinness World Records adjudicator, officially proclaimed the triumph. Dangarikar, reflecting on the unprecedented achievement, noted, “I was here to verify the record for the most people doing Surya Namaskar. This is a new title because no one had attempted to break this record before. After going through all the evidence and witnessing their performance here in Modhera… They have successfully set a new Guinness World Record title for most people doing Surya Namaskar.”

Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, brimming with pride, remarked, “Today Gujarat has registered the first world record of the country and the world, where thousands of people have done yoga together at 108 places and in 51 variety of places.” Sanghavi further underscored the global resonance of yoga, stating, “Yoga is being adopted across the world.”

Gujarat’s monumental achievement is not merely a testament to physical prowess but also a celebration of cultural richness and unity. The Guinness World Record for mass Surya Namaskar solidifies Gujarat’s position as a frontrunner in promoting holistic well-being and preserving age-old traditions.
