Mumbai, the state capital, saw an average of 100 mm rainfall within 24 hours until Thursday morning, while neighbouring Thane experienced a remarkable 213.84 mm of rain during the same timeframe. Coastal districts such as Raigad and Ratnagiri are enduring non-stop downpour, according to officials. Tragically, a large landslide in Raigad’s Irshalwadi village has resulted in at least ten fatalities, with several villagers feared to still be trapped. The advisory, issued in response to the two-day downpour and the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) heavy rainfall warnings, advises citizens against unnecessary outings. It also discourages crowds from gathering at the Irshalwadi landslide site.
