The government plans to introduce a Bill in Parliament to amend the 1995 Wakf Act today. The proposed amendments aim to restrict the Waqf Board’s power to designate properties and will require Waqf boards to register their assets with district collectors to guarantee accurate property valuation. The objective to introduce this bill is to enhance accountability, transparency, and ensure the mandatory inclusion of women in Waqf boards. Currently, there are 30 Waqf boards across the country.
