The ulema of Gorakhpur, in keeping pace with today’s digital age, have formed a new nikahnama. The Aadhaar number of the bride and the groom, along with their lawyer and witnesses will also be recorded on the nikahnama. The photo of the bride and groom will have to be put up. Along with this, information about shariah (Islamic law) rules of marriage, mehr and divorce will also be given.
A copy of the nikahnama will be given to the bride and groom at the time of marriage. A website will also be created so that the nikahnama can be found online and can be obtained digitally through the registered number. This is aimed at putting a check on fraud cases.
Anas Razvi, Qari Obaidullah and Qari Anees—associated with Tanzeem Dawatusunnah—have prepared this modern nikahnama. This will not only be a valid document but also make people aware about the rules of nikah, mehr and divorce. Separate columns are given for all the details in the nikahnama. Columns of time, place, date of marriage are given. The details of the Qazi teaching the marriage will be recorded with signature and seal.
Anas Razvi told The Daily Guardian that the model nikahnama is an essential need of the time. “Marriage is very easy in the eyes of shariah but our wrong rituals and tradition of asking for dowry have made marriage difficult. In Din-e-Islam, there is no system of baraat and baraat feast. Despite this, the procession and feast of the procession were made an essential part of the marriage. Now is the time to end the wrong rituals,” he said.
Razvi said that all the marriages should take place in the mosque, according to the shariah. “The amount of mehr should be decided by the bride. People should be made aware about the correct rules of marriage and divorce. The model nikahnama has been prepared with all these objectives. The details related to it will be present at the back of the nikahnama,” he added.
