When we usually use Google Maps for navigation, we’re used to getting alerts about traffic congestion and roadblocks. But imagine if the app started notifying you of other potential issues beyond just traffic. That’s exactly what happened to Santhosh Sivan in Chennai.

Upon launching Google Maps, it not only provided him with directions but also reminded him to wear a helmet due to upcoming police checkpoints. Sharing this quirky alert on X, his post quickly went viral, amusing many netizens.

Google Maps identified a police checkpoint near Phoenix Mall, alerting motorists about the law enforcement presence in the area. The location tag, written in Tamil, translates to “Police are there, wear a helmet.”

One user commented, “Good initiative.” Another X user remarked, “In the US, FM radio stations actually announce the locations of highway patrol officers. This practice isn’t seen as problematic because officers are typically stationed in accident-prone areas. By alerting drivers, it helps to reduce accidents and keep roads safer.”

Another user responded, “Someone making the right use of technology.” Additionally, one more user shared, “A true social service.”
