Senior nursing delegates from seven countries appreciated PGIMER’s organ donation facility during their field visit to Chandigarh as part of the 24th International Public Health Management Development Programme.
The program, hosted by PGIMER Chandigarh, showcased good nursing practices, best neonatal care practices, and the regional organ donation facility to the visiting nursing delegates. They also observed healthcare services at the lowest healthcare delivery center, the Health and Wellness Center, focusing on nurse-led practices such as NCD screening, ABHA card maintenance, and community participation.
Prof. Sonu Goel, Program Director, highlighted the significance of a multifaceted adult learning pedagogy, emphasizing practical demonstrations through field visits. He expressed gratitude to the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) for sponsoring the program, fostering collaborations to strengthen healthcare systems.
Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Principal of NINE, emphasized the best care provided to patients through nurse-led initiatives at the nursing institute of PGI. The participants appreciated the special session featuring seven nursing professionals who shared innovative practices in nursing care, including initiatives for preventing Diabetes Mellitus, stroke, head injuries, and the establishment and functioning of a Human Milk Bank.
The field visit included a comprehensive tour of the Neonatology department, exploring topics such as breastmilk feeding for preterm neonates, lactation counseling, human milk banking, humane care, infection control, and family integration. Prof. Praveen Kumar, Head of the Department of Neonatology at PGIMER, Chandigarh, highlighted the pivotal role of innovation in the success of nurse-led initiatives.
The visit concluded with an awareness campaign on the achievements of the ROTTO centre (Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization), showcasing good practices in nursing care.
Ms. Saryu, Coordinator of ROTTO, PGIMER, shared that ROTTO is the country’s first organ transplant center, consistently receiving accolades since its inception in 2015-2016 and recently being awarded the national award for the highest number of deceased organ donors.
