Wednesday Season 1 Recap: Everything You Need to Remember Before the New Season

It was a regular Wednesday evening until Netflix decided to drop the new trailer of one of its most popular shows, Wednesday. The spin-off, centered on the Addams Family character, received rave reviews after its first season aired in 2022. While the makers dropped the first season on Netflix all at once, the second season will be unveiled in two parts. The first part comes out in August and the second part will be out in September.

Before you dive headfirst into the chaos of Wednesday Season 2, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and recall all that happened in the previous season. From piranhas to murders and family secrets, Season 1 was a ride. It was packed with eerie mysteries, unexpected twists, and a whole lot of that dry, sarcastic humour we love from Wednesday Addams.

Whether you’re new to the series or need a refresher, here’s your ultimate guide to what happened in the world of Nevermore Academy.

Episode 1: “Wednesday’s Child Is Full of Woe”

The first season began with a splash of dark comedy, setting the tone for the series.

After unleashing piranhas on some high school bullies (obviously), Wednesday is expelled and sent off to Nevermore Academy — a school for, well, outcasts like her. The place is full of freaky creatures, psychic powers, and a deep sense of mystery.

Oh, and did we mention there’s a monster lurking around, too?

Episode 2: “Woe Is the Loneliest Number”

Wednesday, clearly not one for idle chit-chat or fitting in, begins to stir up trouble. She may not want to make friends, but it’s hard to ignore the strange happenings around her — like someone, or something, causing chaos on campus.

And let’s not forget the Poe Cup, where Wednesday faces off against her peers in a race that’s anything but ordinary. All the while, she’s piecing together cryptic clues about the school’s darker history.

Episode 3: “Friend or Woe”

Who needs friends, right? Well, Wednesday’s going to have to learn the art of diplomacy (or at least pretend) because she’s invited to Outreach Day — a day where the outcasts mingle with the “normies” of Jericho. Not exactly her scene.

But it does introduce us to more mysteries, including a shadowy group with a very old-school agenda. It’s clear that Nevermore Academy isn’t just strange; it’s downright haunted.

Episode 4: “Woe What a Night”

By now, the school is in full-on chaos mode, and Wednesday is right in the middle of it. There’s the Rave’N dance (not her thing), some serious jealousy between Tyler and Xavier, and of course, murder investigations. Nothing’s ever simple with Wednesday, and this episode proves that some things — like monsters and mystery — are inescapable.

Episode 5: “You Reap What You Woe”

Family drama? Check. Mystery deepens? Check. Wednesday discovers some seriously uncomfortable truths about her own family during Parents Weekend.

Meanwhile, her friend Enid is dealing with her own transformations (or lack of them). Tensions are high, and the stakes get even higher when Wednesday’s obsession with the case ends up getting her father, Gomez, arrested. Talk about family bonding.

Episode 6: “Quid Pro Woe”

Okay, maybe Wednesday doesn’t care for parties, but surprise — her friends throw her a birthday bash (she’s thrilled, obviously). Still, all she really wants is to crack this ever-growing mystery.

Even Uncle Fester stops by to help, and while his “help” is questionable at best, his theory about the monster provides the perfect fuel for Wednesday’s relentless investigation. Spoiler alert: she doesn’t take kindly to surprises.

Episode 7: “If You Don’t Woe Me by Now”

Uncle Fester might be kooky, but he’s not wrong. After getting his take on things, Wednesday reluctantly agrees to go on a date with Tyler (yes, you read that right) at Crackstone’s crypt.

The monster hunt is in full swing, and it’s starting to look like everyone’s got secrets. Wednesday is closing in on the truth, but is she ready to face what’s lurking beneath the surface?

Episode 8: “A Murder of Woes”

Season 1 wraps up with one of the most intense and mind-blowing finales ever. Wednesday finally uncovers the truth behind the monster and the mystery that’s been plaguing Nevermore.

We’re talking shocking revelations, family history that changes everything, and a showdown that’ll leave you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think it’s over… the twists keep coming.

Now, as the stage sets for Season 2, brace yourself for more monsters, more secrets, and more of Wednesday’s cutting wit. Who knows what new mystery awaits her next? All we know is: it’s going to be a wild, twisted ride.
