Actor Vijay Deverakonda appeared before the Special Investigation Team of the Telangana government on Tuesday in connection with an ongoing investigation into the promotion of illegal online betting apps, police officials confirmed.
According to a senior police officer, Vijay Deverakonda was questioned about his alleged role in endorsing or promoting online betting platforms that are now under scrutiny. The SIT recorded his statement as part of the investigation into celebrities who allegedly helped promote these banned apps.
The SIT has also summoned several other well-known actors like Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, and Manchu Lakshmi for questioning in the case. They are suspected of promoting the betting-related apps through advertisements and social media campaigns.
The probe has been initiated under the Telangana State Gaming Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, considering the potential financial irregularities related to these endorsements.
Given the increasing number of online betting cases, the Telangana government constituted the SIT under the Additional DGP, CID. Its main objective is to track down the network behind these illegal operations, trace the money flow, and initiate stringent legal action against all those involved.

The SIT officials said the team is investigating several aspects of the case-from marketing strategies used to promote the apps to financial transactions linked to celebrities and app operators. It is also looking into whether any direct or indirect partnerships existed between promoters and betting app companies.
The authorities have made it amply clear that promotion or endorsement of betting apps is a punishable offence under Indian law. Public figures are liable to face severe punishment if found guilty of promoting the sites that encourage unlawful gambling practices.
Government Warns Against Illegal Betting The Telangana government has once again reiterated that illegal betting creates a serious social and financial risk at the family and youngsters level. Officials said the SIT's actions are part of a wider policy to secure citizens from digital fraud and crimes related to gambling, establishing accountability at all levels.
