Actor Nimrat Kaur says portraying Meera in the latest season of “The Family Man” was an exciting challenge, giving her the chance to dive into a character defined by elegance, danger, and unapologetic boldness.
The third season of the popular spy-action series began streaming on Prime Video on Friday. In this chapter, Meera becomes one of the central antagonists, working alongside Jaideep Ahlawat’s Rukma as they come face-to-face with Manoj Bajpayee’s Srikant Tiwari.
Kaur, known for films such as “The Lunchbox”, “Airlift”, and “Dasvi”, compared her character to dark chocolate. She shared, “She is a bitter chocolate, delicious as a character because she is un-achievable for a common person. The fun of playing something like that is the bright, the flair, and just the unapologetic ruthlessness that you can have fun with. It's just like intoxication.”
The actor, Nimrat Kaur revealed that she received an unusually enthusiastic response when she told people she was part of “The Family Man”. At first, she answered quietly because she is not someone who enjoys too much attention, but later she embraced the reactions.
“Whenever someone would ask me, ‘What are you doing next?’, I would say, ‘The Family Man’. It's been the most anticipated piece of work that I’ve been able to talk about, and that is a matter of honour,” she said.
Kaur praised the series for creating villains who are layered rather than one-dimensional. She said the writing often makes viewers question their feelings about the characters.
“What wins your heart on the page is bound to work, also you don't know whether to feel bad for the so-called antagonists or should you judge them. So, at the end, you're almost left confused. And that is something which I find very therapeutic,” she explained.
Kaur said she never judged Meera, even with her negative sides. According to her, acting removes personal biases and forces performers to explore characters without labelling them.
“When a part comes to you, and when you're approaching a project, a part can’t be judged, it rids you of your judgments in life… These are characters that you just have to build from the page that is given to you, with the vision that the directors have and the fun that the co-actors bring to the set,” she added.
“The Family Man 3” also features Sharib Hashmi, Ashlesha Thakur, Vedant Sinha, Shreya Dhanwanthary, and Gul Panag, alongside Priyamani and Nimrat Kaur.
