After winning hearts in Anupamaa and lifting the trophy in Celebrity MasterChef, Gaurav Khanna has taken another big leap. The actor has now entered Bigg Boss 19, hosted by Salman Khan.
Before stepping into the house, Gaurav spoke about why he decided to join the reality show at this point in his career. He admitted that the show excites him and also scares him a little.
He said, “I always have butterflies before I start anything new. That newcomer in me is still alive, and that is what gives me the thrill to do something new. It’s a very big show. It’s very different.”
The actor revealed that people questioned his choice of doing the show now. But Gaurav said he always liked doing things differently.
He explained, “A lot of people asked me, ‘Why do you want to do this at this point in your career?’ But I’ve always chosen to think outside the box. I was a corporate professional working in an IT firm with an MBA in marketing, and I became an actor by taking that unconventional path. That’s how I’ve approached my life and career so far.”
For him, the show is a personal challenge. He said, “I’m doing this show for myself, to challenge who I am and see what kind of person I come out as after the experience.”
Gaurav revealed that he had been approached for Bigg Boss many times in the past. But due to busy schedules, he could not commit. This year, he finally agreed.
He added that meeting Salman Khan was a special moment for him. “I had a cold feet meeting my childhood hero, Salman Khan. Back in the day, I would have his posters plastered in my room in Kanpur. I am human, no matter how we are shown on camera, in the end, I am a small-town guy, very boy next door. So when you do something as big as Bigg Boss, you feel nervous till you enter. Once I am inside, I will not look back.”
Unlike some contestants, Gaurav is not worried about how he will be shown on screen. He shared that he did not set any conditions with the makers.
“I don’t remember telling them that I don’t want to be seen in a particular way, but I later got to know that a lot of people do that. I don’t have any issues; they can show me however they want because whatever is shown reflects what I’m actually doing. It’s a part of my personality, and I have no intention of hiding that.”
The actor kept his participation in Bigg Boss 19 a complete secret. Unlike other contestants, he did not give any media interviews before entering the house.
He explained, “We had signed an NDA, that is why I didn’t even speak to any media before entering the show. A lot of contestants met with the media on an embargo scenario, but I didn’t even do that. I always like to stick to the text of the contract.”
Gaurav admitted that he is not very outgoing and that social interaction has always been a challenge for him. But he sees the show as a chance to work on himself.
“I am not very interactive. I never got to or had the zeal to learn social interaction. I am trying to cope with it, but now these Bigg Boss people have snatched my phone, so I will be four months behind the world. My strength is that I know and accept my faults and try not to repeat them. My minus point is that sometimes, even when I should not be thinking too much, I tend to do that.”
He also added, “People being fake triggers me the most. I don’t get angry just like that. I get angry when I choose to. Superstars have haters, but no abuse or hate can bring real talent down.”
Before becoming a TV star, Gaurav Khanna worked as a marketing manager in an IT firm. He made his television debut in 2006 with Bhabhi and later appeared in Kumkum.
Over the years, he has done several shows, but his role in Anupamaa gave him huge fame. He also won Celebrity MasterChef Season 1.
Now, with Bigg Boss 19, Gaurav Khanna has taken on a new challenge that will test not only his patience but also his personality.
