Alia Bhatt recently expressed her admiration for Netflix’s crime drama Adolescence. She described the show as “truly perfection” and praised its writing, direction, and “EXCEPTIONAL cinematography.” Reflecting on the filming process, she wondered, “I wonder what it felt like when after an hour of calling action – to finally calling cut… how did the entire cast and crew feel????”
Powerful Performances and Impactful Storytelling
Furthermore, Alia applauded the actors for their raw and authentic performances. She wrote, “The performances by each and every person that has walked into frame and out was ALIVE.. real, raw, and so hot at the moment that the energy is very very palpable! & so moving.”
Moreover, she appreciated the entire crew’s dedication. She added, “The magic of storytelling and an entire crew coming together to deliver, every department giving nothing but their heart and soul to every second on screen. I’m in awe.”
A Crime Drama Shot in One Take
Adolescence stands out because it was filmed in a single take. Directed by Philip Barantini and written by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, the show delivers a gripping experience. In addition, Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, Faye Marsay, Christine Tremarco, and Mark Stanley gave outstanding performances. However, 15-year-old Owen Cooper stole the spotlight with his portrayal of Jamie Miller.
Owen Cooper’s Impressive Debut
Notably, Adolescence marks Owen Cooper’s acting debut. At just 14 years old, he filmed the series, which was no easy feat. To support him, the makers hired an acting coach to help with his lines.
A team member praised Owen’s natural talent. “Actors train for years and years and still can’t really master what Owen has mastered, which is basically just being in the moment and listening and being truthful.” Additionally, they pointed out that Owen remained completely immersed in his character throughout the series.
