In the time of OTT platforms, women-centric themes have found a fresh lease of life. Several female-oriented series—be it the story of a small-town girl playing a phone sex operator or women asserting their rights across society—have grabbed audience attention.

Actress Nyra Banerjee, who plays the role of a phone sex operator in the series Hello Jee says: “I think people find the situations and characters more relatable. Also, OTT has an audience which is comparatively more open to various scenarios the women are. They are more accepting.”

Actress Maanvi Gagroo, who will soon start shooting for the third season of Four More Shots Please, says: “Till now we had not seen such characters on screen, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t exist in real life. Of course, these are slightly dramatised versions but these things happen. There are women who drink and party, make their own money, and make mistakes. They live life on their own terms. They are regular people trying to lead life on their terms.”

Here are four shows on OTT that credibly toast women’s empowerment, and are worth checking out.

BOMBAY BEGUMS

The upcoming series stars Pooja Bhatt, Shahana Goswami, Amruta Subhash, Plabita Borthakur and Aadhya Anand. The story revolves around four women in Mumbai who come from different strata of society. The series is directed by Lipstick Under My Burkha maker Alankrita Shrivastav and will stream from 8 March.

DEV DD 2

The show carved a special space with season one, as it reinvents Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic literary work Devdas with gender reversal. Here, Devdas is Devika, played by Asheema Vardaan. Sanjay Suri is a new-age, male version of Chandramukhi, as Anurag. Akhil Kapur is Parth (Paro). Rashmi Agdekar is Chandni, or a female Chunnilal, who is a lesbian.

FOUR MORE SHOTS 3

The show will soon start shooting for season three, with the previous two seasons having gained popularity. The series presents life of four women, played by Sayani Gupta, Bani J., Kirti Kulhari and Maanvi Gagroo. While the show initially faced criticism for its unconventionally-presented narrative from certain sections, the OTT audience overall has loved it.

HELLO JEE

The lead character, portrayed by Nyra Banerjee, is a phone sex operator. The story is about how the girl, who hails from small-town India, finds a unique way to earn livelihood. Currently streaming, Hello Jee has garnered a huge following.

“You just never fully know what someone is going through behind the scenes and I’ve learned through my own experiences that it’s always better to lead with kindness,” she concluded.

She further went on to share some of the magazine covers and memes that surfaced on the internet during her preganancy.
Celebrities and fans of the star were up in arms following the release of the songstress’s ‘Framing Britney Spears’ documentary, which was based on how the singer faced downfall in her career and also highlighted about her conservatorship battle.

‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ will dive into other Warner Bros. properties

Published

on

By

Washington [US], March 6 (ANI): The highly anticipated ‘Space Jam’ sequel, which has been titled ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ will integrate other properties of Warner Bros., which includes ‘Mad Max’ and ‘Casablanca’.
According to People magazine, the sequel which is set to hit theaters and HBO Max on July 16 will play around with the different films under the media conglomerate’s ownership.
Recently during an interview with a publication, the movie’s producer Ryan Coogler said, “Obviously the Looney Tunes come with the Space Jam property, but the idea of playing in the entire Warner Bros. sandbox was an idea that came from co-writer Terence Nance.”
He further added, “And that was a really unique quality about some of the things that he wanted to explore in the script and that made a lot of sense in terms of how entertainment conglomerates are operating right now.”
“A lot of times you have these companies trying to figure out how they can combine different properties and bringing them into one thing to up the ante for the audience. Our script takes a very macro look at that, but from a meta-story perspective. LeBron kind of becomes a very meta cog in that machine,” Coogler concluded.
Earlier this week, a slew of first look images were released of the upcoming feature, which is due out in July.
In the forthcoming film, Lebron James will travel through an array of some of the most recognizable flicks from Warner Bros. to track down the Looney Tunes and “a banished” Bugs Bunny.
As per People magazine, in ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’, James’ onscreen son Dom’s tech skills get him and the athlete sucked into an entertainment server by a CGI humanoid, who wants to steal some of James’ social media followers. To escape from the virtual world in which they’re trapped, James gathers the Looney Tunes for a basketball game.
The original 1996 animated and live-action movie follows basketball legend Michael Jordan, as he helps the Looney Tunes win a basketball game against a group of alien bullies. (ANI)
