The police reported on Wednesday morning that two different encounters that took place in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the deaths of up to four local militants.

Three local terrorists affiliated with the outlawed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed in the first encounter that occurred last night in the Shopian neighbourhood of Drach, and one local terrorist affiliated with the outlawed terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was neutralised in the second encounter between security forces and the terrorists that occurred early this morning in the Moolu neighbourhood of Shopian.

01 local #terrorist of proscribed terror outfit LeT killed in Moolu #encounter. #Operation going on. Further details shall follow,” tweeted Kashmir Zone Police.
“Second #encounter has started in Moolu area of #Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” the police had tweeted early this morning.

The police claim that Hanan Bin Yaqoob and Jamshed, two terrorists who the police claim were involved in the recent murder of special police officer Javed Dar in Pulwama, were identified as two of the terrorists killed in the Drach encounter.

“Killed #terrorists Hanan Bin Yaqoob & Jamshed were involved in recent #killing of SPO Javed Dar on October 2 at Pinglana in #Pulwama & an outside labourer from West Bengal on September 24 in Pulwama,” tweeted the police.

On October 2, the police and security forces conducted a coordinated operation in the Baskuchan neighbourhood of Shopian in J-K to neutralise a local terrorist from the outlawed terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

According to ADGP Kashmir, the terrorist was identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat of Nowpora Baskuchan, Shopian.

The police, Army (44R), and CRPF (178Bn) conducted a joint cordon and search operation in the Shopian hamlet of Baskuchan based on specific information provided by the police about the presence of a terrorist there.

The hiding terrorist opened fire on the joint search party during the search operation as they got close to the suspected location. The joint search party effectively retaliated, which led to an encounter.

At the scene of the confrontation, the police found evidence, weapons, and ammo, including an AK-47. All of the confiscated materials, according to the police, had been entered into case files for further investigation.
