The 2024 Lok Sabha election results brought unexpected outcomes as the Opposition INDIA bloc surpassed exit poll predictions, hindering the BJP from securing an outright majority beyond the 300-mark. Notably, four 25-year-old candidates emerged victorious and are poised to become the youngest MPs in the 18th Lok Sabha.

The four Gen Z MPs, namely Pushpendra Saroj, Priya Saroj, Shambhavi Choudhary, and Sanjana Jatav, clinched their seats representing different parties—Pushpendra and Priya from the Samajwadi Party (SP), and Shambhavi and Sanjana from the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Congress, respectively.

Pushpendra Saroj

Member of the Samajwadi Party (SP), emerged victorious in the Kaushambi Lok Sabha constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He defeated the incumbent BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar with a significant margin of 1,03,944 votes.

Pushpendra Saroj, whose father Inderjit Saroj serves as the national general secretary of SP and is a former five-time MLA and Minister in Uttar Pradesh, stepped into politics. It’s worth mentioning that Inderjit Saroj was defeated by Sonkar in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections for this seat.

After finishing his B.Sc. in Accounting and Management from Queen Mary University of London, Pushpendra Saroj entered the political arena.

 Priya Saroj

Priya Saroj, aged 25, contested and won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh’s Machhlishahr constituency on an SP ticket. She secured victory over the incumbent BJP MP Bholanath with a margin of 35,850 votes.

Priya Saroj’s father, Toofani Saroj, has served as an MP for three terms.

 Shambhavi Choudhary

Shambhavi Choudhary, running on an LJP ticket, won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Bihar’s Samastipur constituency. She defeated Sunny Hazari from the Congress, who is the son of Janata Dal (United) Minister Maheshwar Hazari, with a significant margin of over one lakh votes.

Shambhavi Choudhary, who had aspirations of entering politics, is the daughter of Ashok Choudhary, a member of the Nitish Kumar-led cabinet in Bihar. Ashok Choudhary recently switched allegiance from the Congress to the JD(U).

Shambhavi Choudhary’s grandfather, the late Mahavir Choudhary, was a member of the Congress and held a ministerial position in Bihar during the party’s tenure in power.

Sanjana Jatav

Sanjana Jatav, representing the Congress, secured victory in the Bharatpur constituency of Rajasthan in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. She defeated BJP’s Ramswaroop Koli by a significant margin of 51,983 votes. Sanjana had previously contested in the state’s assembly polls but narrowly lost to Ramesh Khedi of the BJP by just 409 votes.
