Days after resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Ashok Tanwar has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi. His entry into the BJP took place in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh.

Reports suggest that Tanwar was discontented with AAP’s collaboration with the Congress under the I.N.D.I.A setup. In his resignation letter to AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Tanwar stated that his ethics wouldn’t allow him to continue as Chairman of the Election Campaign Committee for AAP Haryana due to their alignment with the Indian National Congress. He expressed his commitment to work for the betterment of Haryana and the country.

Ashok Tanwar had previously resigned from the Congress in 2019 and joined AAP in 2022. He later joined the Trinamool Congress for a brief period. His decision to join the BJP comes amid political realignments and alliances in Haryana. The recent postponement of the Chandigarh mayoral elections, where AAP and Congress formed an alliance, had triggered protests after citing the “ill health” of the designated presiding officer.
