At least five people were injured by a leopard in north Delhi’s Wazirabad village on Monday morning, sparking panic among locals according to officials. Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg confirmed the leopard’s subsequent rescue.
Officials reported that the leopard leaped from a terrace in Jagatpur village early morning, then entered the adjacent building, where it got locked in a room. Social media videos depicted people chasing the leopard and others fleeing in panic.
As per the Delhi Fire Service, they received information about the incident at approximately 6.20 am and dispatched two fire tenders to the scene. “With the help of the locals, the officials locked the leopard in a room. The injured were sent to a hospital,” Delhi Fire Service (DFS) chief Atul Garg said.
According to a resident, the leopard was initially sighted at approximately 4.30 am, and a PCR call was placed by 5.15 am. It attempted to attack more than a dozen individuals, resulting in injuries to some of them.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) M K Meena stated that a report of the leopard entering a house in Jagatpur village was received, prompting the local police to arrive at the scene and notify forest department officials.
Police reported that five individuals sustained injuries in the leopard attack, with three of them identified as Mahender, Akash, and Rampal.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) stated that seven forest department personnel, a Delhi Fire Department team, and local police are currently on-site.
A local resident mentioned that the village is encircled by jungle, yet lacks any form of fencing or security measures.
Earlier this year in Malegaon, Maharashtra, a startling event unfolded as a leopard ventured into a room while a child was preoccupied with a phone. The quick-thinking boy calmly closed the door and left the room. Subsequently, rescue teams were dispatched to capture the animal. Authorities effectively tranquilized the leopard, safely containing it in a cage.
