Chandigarh Police have arrested five members of the surety and identification gang who were taking money to secure bail for the accused in the district courts. The arrested individuals are: Bal Krishna alias Aman, a resident of Badshahi Bag, Court Road, Ambala City, Haryana; Nitin, a resident of Sector 25D, Chandigarh; Arvind Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Qazi Wala, Ambala City; Rajan Das alias Amarjeet, a resident of Kheda, Near Vishwa Karma Nagar, Rajpura; and Honey, a resident of village Hasanpur, police station Lalru, district Mohali, Punjab. All the accused were presented before the court and taken into police remand.

During the arrest, the police recovered 38 fake Aadhaar cards, 14 fake voter cards, 8 jamabandi of various properties, 4 fake numbered cards, and 1 fake Bar Association card and Chandigarh card from the possession of the accused. There is a possibility of more seizures.
The gang operates in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, reaching fake bail courts and tehsils early in the morning to secure bail for people. To curb this illicit business of fixed sureties, the police have tightened security in District Court Sector 43, Chandigarh. The racket has spread to Chandigarh, Mohali Court, Panchkula, and Ambala.

When an accused needs bail, friends and family contact the gang members, whose mobile numbers are known to all typists in the court and tehsil. The bail and identification contract is arranged according to the accused, with money recovered for their services. This illegal practice allows individuals to stand as sureties, even if they don’t know the accused, resulting in the release of hardened criminals. The maximum number of fake bail bonds provided in the Tricity is under investigation by vigilance.

Inspector Omprakash, SHO Police Station Sector 43, Chandigarh, stated that daily complaints were received about the increasing fake bail amounts in Tricity. Acting on these complaints, the police formed a team and arrested the accused, registering a case under sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120-B at Police Station-36, Chandigarh.

Narendra Singh, Reader, District Court, Sector 43, Chandigarh, reported that Bal Krishna and Nitin had attempted to submit a fake surety bond in District Court Sector 43, Chandigarh. Arvind Kumar was arrested during the investigation, and further disclosures led to the arrest of Rajan Das and another co-accused from Hani village, Hasanpur police station, Lalru district, Mohali, Punjab. Investigations revealed that the accused had acted as fake sureties in various cases in District Court Sector 43, Chandigarh.
