The late M Fathima Beevi, the first woman Supreme Court judge and former Tamil Nadu Governor, was laid to rest with full state honours at the Juma Masjid town qabristan on Friday.
In the afternoon, hundreds of people gathered at the Pathanamthitta town hall, where the judge’s body was placed for the public to bid their final farewells. District Collector A Shibu, IAS, representing the Kerala government and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, laid a floral wreath on the departed judge’s body.
The Additional District Magistrate (ADM) laid a floral wreath on behalf of Health Minister Veena George. Another wreath was presented on behalf of Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai.
Kerala High Court judges, Assembly Deputy Speaker Chittayam Gopakumar, and MLAs K U Jenish Kumar and Pramod Narayanan were among those who visited the residence of Justice Beevi to pay their respects. Justice Beevi, who passed away at the age of 96, breathed her last at a private hospital in Kollam on Thursday.
