The Indian men’s hockey team faced a 1-4 defeat against Belgium on Friday during their second match of the European leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24. Abhishek (55) netted the only goal for India, while Belgium’s goals were scored by Felix Denayer (22’), Alexander Hendrickx (34’, 60’), and Cedric Charlier (49’).

Belgium initially posed a greater threat, but India’s strong defense held firm. Midway through the quarter, India intensified their attacks, pushing Belgium back and creating chances from the right side. Despite efforts from both teams, the first quarter ended goalless.

Both teams had a strong start in the second quarter, evenly matched in the initial exchanges. India got a penalty corner early but couldn’t score as Belgium’s goalkeeper blocked Harmanpreet’s shot. Belgium took the lead 1-0 with eight minutes left in the quarter when Felix Denayer scored from close range. India couldn’t equalize before halftime despite their repeated attacks.

India came out strong in the second half, but Belgium’s defense remained solid.
