Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Fawad Chaudhry has urged Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial to pay attention to the Zaman Park crisis as police attempted to detain party chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, according to ARY News.
The PTI leader pleaded with the CJP to halt police activities right away. In an interview with ARY News’ “Sawwal Yeh Hai,” Chaudhry said that Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had openly threatened Imran Khan.
Imran Khan claimed that even helicopters were made available to police for the arrest of Khan. “On the one hand, they [the government] refused to provide security for elections while a heavy contingent of police arrived at Zaman Park to arrest Imran Khan,” Khan stated, according to ARY News.
The PTI leader criticized the Punjab administration, saying that while they were ‘crying’ about not having ‘enough funds for holding elections,’ millions of rupees were being spent on the former prime minister’s arrest.
According to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, PTI supporters thrown tear gas and water cannons to fend off police officers when they attempted to arrest ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday at his home in the Zaman Park neighborhood in Lahore.
For more than 11 hours, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf members spoke with the police.
Security forces had to leave Zaman Park on Tuesday night due to the massive number of fans who had descended onto the area. By midnight, the cops had lost about 30 people. At least 15 PTI employees have also been held by the police, according to Dawn and Geo News.
Imran Khan, meanwhile, has claimed that the federal government is preparing for his arrest as part of a “London plan” to conclude all proceedings against the nation’s former PM Nawaz Sharif.
“This is part of the London plan and an agreement has been signed there to put Imran in jail, make the PTI fall, and finish all cases against Nawaz Sharif,” Khan said in a video message.
