The Wednesday explosion in northern Afghanistan claimed the lives of at least 16 people and injured 24 others.

According to reports, the explosion occurred at the Jahdia Seminary in the Samangan city of Aybak during the afternoon prayer. According to a doctor at Samangan Provincial Hospital, this hospital has received at least 15 bodies and 27 injured patients.

A religious school in northern Afghanistan was struck by a bomb blast, according to a Taliban official, and at least 10 students were killed.

According to local authorities, the explosion occurred during the afternoon prayer.

Several others were injured, according to Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor, in the blast in Aybak, the northern Samangan province’s capital.

No group or organisation has admitted guilt for the explosion as of yet.

Since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan after the overthrow of the US-backed civilian government last year, bombings and violent incidents have become commonplace.

Rights organisations claimed that the Taliban had repeatedly broken their promises to uphold women’s and human rights.
