US universities ‘contaminated by hatred, anti-Semitism’: Israel President

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog has strongly criticized US universities for what he described as a rise in anti-Semitism and campus unrest related to the Israel-Gaza conflict. In a special broadcast, Herzog voiced his concerns over the “contamination” of academic institutions by hatred and anti-Semitic sentiments.

Herzog’s comments come as tensions escalate on campuses, particularly in the aftermath of hostilities between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. He expressed solidarity with Jewish communities and condemned the violence and intimidation faced by Jewish students at US universities.

The conflict, which has resulted in significant casualties on both sides, has triggered protests and demonstrations at approximately 30 US universities. Demonstrators have expressed outrage over the loss of life in the Gaza Strip and have called for an end to the violence.

Herzog’s message underscored the need to address anti-Semitism and ensure the safety and freedom of Jewish communities worldwide. He called for unity in combating hostility, defending civil liberties, and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The Israeli president’s statement comes ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations, emphasizing the historical significance of resisting hatred and standing up for freedom and dignity.
