UN Chief Warns Against Ground Invasion Of Rafah

Issuing a stark warning, the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres announced that a ground invasion would prove to be “intolerable.” Thus, inflicting humanitarian consequences and destabilizing the region.

“A ground invasion in Rafah would be intolerable because of its devastating humanitarian consequences and because of its destabilising impact in the region.”- Antonio Guterres.

The UN chief further said that he has made a strong appeal to both Israeli government and the leadership of Hamas, to go an “go an extra mile” for ceasefire agreement.

Later adding that this opportunity shouldn’t be missed.

This statement is made at a time when multiple airstrikes have already been conducted on Rafah early Tuesday, resulting in dozens of casualties and injuries, as reported by the Palestinian Civil Defence.

“Civil defence teams have managed to pull out a number of martyrs and transport several injured individuals from under the rubble of several homes which were bombed by Israeli warplanes tonight in various places in the Rafah governorate in southern Gaza Strip.” said Palestinian Civil Defence.

As per the released images by Civil Defence, the aftermath has been grim. As several casualties got recovered from the rubble of bombed homes.

Further Palestinian official news agency WAFA, has given the confirmation of eight deaths due to two separate attacks happened in Rafah (even though the timeline isn’t clear).

As per Facebook’s post in the early hours of Tuesday, the Kuwait hospital has received around 11 deceased individuals.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office has reaffirmed that the military operation in Rafah will continue, in order to “exert military pressure on Hamas.”

Further, the IDF also announced that targeted strikes are ongoing against hamas’s targets in eastern Rafah.
