UN Chief Calls For ‘Immediate’ Gaza Ceasefire, Hostage Release

Secretary-General of UN Antonio Guterres called for the immediate halt to the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, hostage release, and provision of humanitarian aid for the besieged Palestine territories on Sunday.

While addressing a video conference at international donors’ conference (organized by International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) and the UN’s humanitarian coordination organization OCHA) in Kuwait, Antonio Guterres said “I repeat my call, the world’s call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages, and an immediate surge in humanitarian aid.”

However, he also added, that the ceasefire will be just a beginning. There is a long road to go heal the devastation and the trauma of the war.

His remarks come around the time, when Israel continues to conduct strikes after its expansion order in Rafah. Despite international condemnation issued against military operation in the eastern side of the city.

“The war in Gaza is causing horrific human suffering, devastating lives, tearing families apart and rendering huge numbers of people homeless, hungry and traumatised.”said Gutteres.

Earlier on Friday, the UN chief warned about Gaza’s imminent epic humanitarian disaster, if Israel conducts ground invasion in Rafah at Nairobi.

Meanwhile, Israel has launched a retaliatory offensive in Gaza October 7th attack, in order to destroy Hamas.

Thus, killing more than 34,971 people mostly women and children as per Hamas-run territory’s health ministry.
