Turkish President Erdogan Backs Pakistan’s Call for Probe, Flags India-Pak Tensions

In the midst of the growing military exchanges between India and Pakistan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has expressed serious concern over the crisis. Speaking to the media in Ankara, Erdogan said the tension is “turning into an open conflict” after recent missile attacks.

“We are worried that the tension between India and Pakistan is turning into an open conflict with missile strikes that have led to the martyrdom of many civilians,” he said.

Erdogan Offers Condolences to Pakistan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was in solidarity with Pakistan and conveyed condolences on the loss of life in the recent attacks. “We again convey our condolences to the brotherly state and people of Pakistan, and pray Allah to bestow mercy upon our brothers who lost their lives in the attacks,” he stated.

Erdogan Calls Pakistan PM Sharif

The Turkish leader disclosed that he made an “important phone call” to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The two reportedly had a conversation on the rising tension, regional spillover, and de-escalating measures.

Support for International Inquiry into Pahalgam Attack

Erdogan backed Pakistan’s call for an international probe into the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 civilians. “We appreciate Pakistan’s initiative for an international investigation into the horrific terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

By endorsing the demand, Erdogan reinforced Islamabad’s push for global scrutiny to identify those behind the attack—an act India attributes to cross-border terrorism.

Türkiye Urges Peace and Dialogue

Reasserting Türkiye’s role as a facilitator, Erdoğan declared that his nation is doing everything in its power to de-escalate the situation. “In spite of those who want to add fuel to the fire, we, as Türkiye, are making every effort to ease tensions and establish communication channels before the situation reaches a point where it is no longer reversible,” he stated.

Erdoğan’s comments represent one of the loudest global reactions since the India-Pakistan situation escalated. The two nations have nuclear capabilities at their disposal, and the global community is becoming increasingly worried that there will be a further escalation of military aggression.
