The viral clip generated mixed responses in the internet community. A comment from a user was sarcastic, saying, “Exciting stuff for security personnel. Climbing the pyramid legally.” A user also added humorously, “WARNING: If you lack a Federal permission to visit Pyramids or Ruins, upon doing so, you acknowledge you will be given to the Mayan Gods—this is so as to uphold ancestral practices.”
The Temple of Kukulcan, which is part of the Chichen Itza archaeological complex, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. According to the People report, the ancient Mayans constructed the building around 1500 BC to monitor the changing seasons. The official website of the site highlights that it is illegal to climb the pyramid since previous visitors have done considerable harm to the monument.
