Russian Drone Strike Kills 9 in Ukraine Amid Ceasefire Talks

A Russian drone attacked a bus carrying workers in Marhanets, a city in south-central Ukraine on Wednesday morning. As a result, nine people lost their lives.

Soon after, Serhiy Lysak, the regional head of Dnipropetrovsk, confirmed the casualties. He added, “the number of victims is constantly growing.” At least 30 people suffered injuries during the strike.

Meanwhile, Peace Talks Begin in London

Interestingly, the drone strike occurred just as key international talks were set to begin. Officials from Ukraine, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany gathered in London. Their goal was to find a path toward a ceasefire in the ongoing war.

Ongoing Conflict Since 2022

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Since then, both military and civilian losses have been massive. Estimates say hundreds of thousands have died or suffered injuries on all sides.

Earlier Efforts to Stop the Fighting

Earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a 30-hour ceasefire for Easter Sunday. Ukraine responded by saying it would follow the same truce. However, both sides later accused each other of breaking that agreement.

Russia Shared Demands

Last month, Moscow issued a list of demands in response to a broader ceasefire plan. This list came after the U.S. and Ukraine had already reached a basic agreement. But Russia’s conditions made it harder to move forward.

Dialogue Continues

Despite the violence, the U.S. remains involved in negotiations. American officials continue to speak with Russian, Ukrainian, and European leaders. Their aim is to reach a truce and bring an end to the war.
