Russia Launches Massive Missile & Drone Attack on Kyiv, Four Killed and Many Injured

Russia carried out a colossal missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight, killing at least four and injuring 20, the Ukrainian authorities said. The attack occurred days after Ukrainian drones blew up several of Russia’s strategic bombers in daring raids deep within Russian territory. The barrage involved Kalibr cruise missiles and kamikaze drones, which were said to have ignited fires, damaging metro structures, and sending civilians to shelters.

The fatal escalation comes in the wake of a threat by Russian President Vladimir Putin, allegedly conveyed via US President Donald Trump, threatening to retaliate against the drone strikes.

Missiles and Drones Batter Kyiv Overnight

Russian troops launched a combination of missiles and drones over Kyiv at night. The blasts shook the capital, shattering windows and illuminating the skies. Reuters reporters heard kamikaze drones buzzing above and the Ukrainian anti-aircraft bursts.

The air defense of the city tried to repel the attack, but several of the strikes penetrated anyway, igniting fires in residential neighborhoods in various districts.

Four Dead, More Feared Trapped

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko verified the fatalities of four civilians. He cautioned that the number could increase as rescue workers combed through rubble to find people trapped. Sixteen of the 20 wounded were hospitalized.

Apartment buildings on both the eastern and western outskirts of the city caught fire. In Darnytskyi district, drones struck the top floors of a high-rise building, inflicting heavy damage and electricity outages.

Air raids interfered with the metro in the city. A missile struck a train midway between stations, as Kyiv’s military command reported. The impact stopped operation and forced citizens underground. People took shelter in metro stations and underground parking areas as alarms howled through the capital.

Ukraine’s Drone Strikes Provokes Russian Retaliation

The Kyiv strikes came after Ukraine‘s bold drone attack razed a number of Russia’s strategic bombers on the ground. Ukrainian spies utilized quadcopter drones camouflaged inside wooden sheds to execute the attacks within Russia. The bold action attracted a stern warning from Moscow.

Today, Kyiv is experiencing the aftermath of Russia’s retaliation, where civilians take the full force of a vicious war that refuses to slow down.
