Meghan Markle’s Mother’s Day Yellow Outfit For Nigerian Reception Is Touching Homage

Meghan Markle, who typically dresses in neutral hues, broke out of her comfort zone on May 12 when she wore a dazzling yellow flowing dress to the State Governor House celebration in Lagos, Nigeria. The significance of her eye-catching outfit dates back to earlier events, so some onlookers may recognise it.

The bright outfit Meghan wore to the Mother’s Day reception in Nigeria is the same one she wore at Prince Archie‘s first birthday party in 2020. A peek of their sentimental bond can be seen in photos from her and Prince Harry’s Netflix documentaries. She apparently used the same outfit in 2021 to announce the news that she was expecting Princess Lilibet, her second child, according to the Daily Mail.

Complementing her £3,198 Carolina Herrera yellow maxi gown with gold jewelry, Meghan opted for an updo hairstyle. Page Six noted that her choice of jewelry bore resemblance to pieces worn by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, during her visit to Nigeria in 1991.

Upon their arrival in the country, Meghan was once again observed wearing vintage gold accessories alongside Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex has always embraced vivid colours as a tribute to her Nigerian background. She revealed, via a genealogical test, that she has 43% Nigerian ancestry in a 2022 episode of the Archetypes podcast.

Meghan demonstrated her support for this idea on Saturday at a Women in Leadership event in Abuja, where she wore a red ruffled midi dress by Nigerian designer Oríré. Speaking about her outfit selections at the function, she said, “It’s been a hectic day since we arrived, and I quickly realised that I need to wear more colour to match everyone else’s amazing style.”

During the same event on the second day of her trip with Prince Harry, she also referred to Nigeria as “my country,” acknowledging her ancestral background and expressing her appreciation for the opportunity to learn more about her heritage.
