A knife attack at Germany’s Hamburg central railway station on Friday night injured at least 12. Police stated that a 39-year-old German woman was arrested at the scene without any resistance. After reviewing video footage, they believe she acted alone.
Attack Took Place Between Tracks 13 and 14
The attacker stabbed individuals with a knife on the platform between tracks 13 and 14 in the railway station, police said. Police have taken custody of a knife from the suspect.
Three victims are in critical condition, while three others are seriously injured, Bild reported, adding that six people suffered minor injuries in the tragic attack.
Some Victims Treated on Trains in Hamburg
Some of the victims were being treated on trains. Police added that the motive for the attack had yet to be established.
“According to initial information, a person injured several people with a knife at the main train station,” Hamburg police said in a post on X.
The city center station in Germany’s second-largest city, Hamburg, is a big hub for long-distance, regional and local trains. Police cordoned off a section of the complex, AP said.
Deutsche Bahn Responds, Train Services Disrupted in Hamburg
Railway company Deutsche Bahn described itself as “shocked deep” by the attack. Four tracks at the station were shut down Friday night, and a number of long-distance trains were delayed or rerouted.
It is prohibited to carry weapons, such as knives, at the station as well as on Hamburg local transport. Over the past few months, Germany has seen a spate of violent attacks, among which stabbing attacks have been prominent.
On Sunday, four individuals were wounded in a stabbing attack at a bar in the city of Bielefeld. Federal prosecutors had taken up the case of the attack after the attacker informed the police officers who had arrested him that he had jihadist leanings.
